Dr. Vaninder Dhillon is Assistant Professor of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Johns Hopkins University, primarily based out of Bethesda Maryland in the National Capital Region. She is dual fellowship trained in Laryngology and Head and Neck Endocrine Surgery, with clinical interest in voice and swallow outcomes in endocrine surgical patients. Dr Dhillon was raised in the Northern California area, and completed her medical school and residency training at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, CA.
Dr. Dhillon is a member of the American Head and Neck Society-Endocrine Section, and recently spearheaded and led the publication of 2020 consensus statement titled 'Immediate and partial neural dysfunction after thyroid and parathyroid surgery: Need for recognition, laryngeal exam, and early treatment'. She is also a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology and has been involved in promoting 'How to Build an Endocrine Surgery Practice' both in the form of social media platforms as well as panel presentation.
Dr. Dhillon's principle research interests have been in voice and swallow outcomes in patients who undergo thyroid and parathyroid surgery. This includes vocal fold paralysis but partial laryngeal dysfunction including functional dysphonia, dysphagia as well as cough, globus and throat pain. She is also involved in the treatment of chronic neurogenic cough, and has written papers on the review of superior laryngeal nerve blocks in treatment of chronic neurogenic cough. She has a clinically busy laryngology as well as endocrine surgical practice which includes surgical disorders of the thyroid and parathyroid glands. She has a particular interest in intraoperative nerve monitoring in endocrine surgery as well as radiofrequency ablation (RFA) of thyroid nodules.
Dr. Dhillon is a peer reviewer for multiple journals and is looking forward to being a part of the editorial board for AOT.
